International Summer School: Iconography of the Ancient World
An advanced, itinerant school offering specialized methodological training to MA/PhD candidates and early-career researchers in Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Biblical Studies, Religious History and cognate fields. Rooted in the visual studies tradition of the Fribourg School, it treats visual culture as an independent source alongside ancient literature, epigraphy and archaeology, pairing historical epistemology and image analysis with hands-on work on artifacts. The school alternates every year between European and Latin American hosts (Wuppertal 2024 and 2025, Vitória 2026), with a Scientific Board and 2 ECTS (20 contact hours) per edition. Students move between institutions, receive mentoring from faculty at several universities and join international research networks.
