My book “O código devorado: os usos da iconografia antigo-oriental na exegese bíblica” (The Devoured Code: The Uses of Ancient Near Eastern Iconography in Biblical Exegesis) was recently published by Editora Recriar. It translates into Brazilian Portuguese and expands upon my habilitation thesis (Habilitationsschrift), which was accepted at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Bern.

The book discusses interartistic approaches to the Bible, i.e., biblical-exegetical approaches that benefit from comparing biblical texts with visual remains supposedly originating from the same historical-cultural horizon. As its main contributions, the book offers the most comprehensive sociomaterial evaluation of the history of research, provides a theoretical and methodological reassessment of these different approaches, and proposes a new decolonial theory of interartistic interpretation based on the Brazilian Anthropophagic movement.

The book is available in print on the publisher’s website (see here) and, thanks to funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), can be downloaded for free (download book here).
