Summer School ‘26
ENG: I am excited to announce the next edition of our International Summer School, which will take place in 2026 at Faculdade Unida de Vitória. Organized in partnership with PD Dr Thomas Wagner (Bergische Universität Wuppertal), this edition will focus on the theme "Ancestral Visual Epistemologies".
The course is a great opportunity to combine theoretical insights into ancient iconography with practical experience in image analysis. We will explore how ancestral cultures reveal aspects of the world through their imagery, engaging with phenomena like Visual Thinking and Graphesis through the lens of Historical Epistemology. This year we will have lectures from Prof. Dr. Katia Pozzer (UFRGS) and Prof. Dr. Thaís Rocha (UFMG), among others.
The intensive course is aimed at MA and PhD students and early-career researchers in the fields of Hebrew Bible, New Testament, religious studies, and related disciplines. During the course, participants will learn methodological approaches—including "thick description" and the reconstruction of culturally determined image programmes—and will also have the opportunity to present and discuss their own research.

PT-BR: Tenho a alegria de anunciar a próxima edição da nossa International Summer School, que acontecerá em 2026 na Faculdade Unida de Vitória. Organizada em parceria com o Prof. Dr. Thomas Wagner (Bergische Universität Wuppertal), esta edição terá como foco o tema "Ancestral Visual Epistemologies" (Epistemologias Visuais Ancestrais).
O curso é uma excelente oportunidade para combinar discussões teóricas sobre a iconografia antiga com a experiência prática na análise de imagens. Exploraremos como as culturas ancestrais revelam aspectos do mundo através de sua cultura visual, abordando fenômenos como o Pensamento Visual (Visual Thinking) e a Grafese (Graphesis) pelas lentes da Epistemologia Histórica. Esse ano contaremos com a presença da Profa. Dra. Katia Pozzer (UFRGS) e Profa. Dra. Thaís Rocha (UFMG), entre outros(as).
O curso intensivo é voltado para mestrandos(as), doutorandos(as) e pesquisadores(as) iniciantes nas áreas de Bíblia Hebraica, Novo Testamento, ciências da religião e disciplinas afins. Durante o curso, os participantes aprenderão abordagens metodológicas — incluindo a "descrição densa" (thick description) e a reconstrução de programas visuais culturalmente determinados — e terão a oportunidade de apresentar e discutir suas próprias pesquisas.
