Summer School ‘25
ENG: Last week, from September 8–12, the "International Summer School: Iconography of the Ancient World" took place in Wuppertal, Germany. The course is the result of a partnership between Faculdade Unida de Vitória and Bergische Universität Wuppertal, and was organized by myself and PD Dr Thomas Wagner.
In this second edition of the summer school, we welcomed thirteen participants from nine different countries (ranging from master’s students to postdoctoral researchers), as well as three distinguished guests who are leading figures in the field: Dr. Josephine Fechner (Göttingen/DE), Prof. Dr. Stephanie Langin-Hooper (SMU, Dallas/USA), and Prof. Dr. em. Silvia Schroer (Bern/CH).
During the week, we discussed theories and methods for approaching ancient iconography, explored specific themes in ancient Babylonian and South Levantine coroplastic and glyptic art, discussed ongoing research, and visited local museums.
In September of next year, the summer school will take place for the first time in Brazil, at Faculdade Unida de Vitória. The chosen theme for this edition is "Ancestral Visual Epistemologies." More information coming soon!
PT-BR: Na última semana, de 8 a 12 de setembro, ocorreu a "International Summer School: Iconography of the Ancient World"(Escola de Verão Internacional: Iconografia do Mundo Antigo) em Wuppertal, na Alemanha. O curso é fruto de uma parceria entre a Faculdade Unida de Vitória e a Bergische Universität Wuppertal, e foi organizado por mim e pelo Prof. Dr. Thomas Wagner.
Nesta segunda edição da escola de verão, recebemos treze participantes de nove países diferentes (desde estudantes de mestrado até pesquisadores de pós-doutorado), além de três convidadas ilustres que são referências na área: a Dra. Josephine Fechner (Göttingen/DE), a Prof. Dra. Stephanie Langin-Hooper (SMU, Dallas/EUA) e a Prof. Dra. Silvia Schroer (Berna/CH).
Durante a semana, discutimos teorias e métodos para a abordagem da iconografia antiga, exploramos temas específicos na arte coroplástica e glíptica da antiga Babilônia e do Levante do Sul, debatemos pesquisas em andamento e visitamos museus locais.
Em setembro do ano que vem, a escola de verão acontecerá pela primeira vez no Brasil, na Faculdade Unida de Vitória. O tema escolhido para essa edição é "Ancestral Visual Epistemologies" (Epistemologias Visuais Ancestrais). Mais informações em breve!
